About Heilongjiang Academy of Forestry

Heilongjiang Academy of Forestry (HAF), a branch of Chinese Academy of Forestry, was established in 1960. It is now a comprehensive academy with six institutes, Forestry Institute, Forest Products Institute, Forest Protection Institute, Forest by-Products Institute, Wildlife Institute and Timber Logging and transportation Institute and five testing grounds including Fenglin National Nature Reserve Bureau, Lilin Experimental Forest Farm, Zhaodong Experimental Forest Farm, Jiangshanjiao Experimental Forest Farm and Pingshan Wildlife Experimental Farm. Six key disciplines on the provincial level are constructed such as forest cultivation, forest management, forestry economy management, wildlife protection and utilization, timber science and technology and two key labs, Timber Production Lab of National Bureau of Forestry and Provincial Comprehensive Utilization of Timber Lab are built. Some technology monitoring organizations such as Chinese Timber Standardization Technology Committee, Supervising and Inspection Station of Log Clearing Product Quality of National Bureau of Forestry, a provincial Inspection Station of Log Clearing Product Quality, Supervising and Inspection Station of Wood-based Panel Quality, Wildlife Domestication and Breeding Studying Committee, Longjiang Forest Industry Group Monitoring Station of Energy Saving, Forestry Energy Testing Station and Forestry Environment Protection Research Center are attached to HAF.

Nowadays HAF is becoming a regional scientific research organization, it has complete disciplines, reasonable structure and outstanding compositive advantages and is able to undertake key scientific research items independently. A total of 390 research persons work for HAF, among them 163 are granted senior academic rank (40 Research Fellows, 123 Vice Research Fellows), 22 have master degrees, 8 doctor degrees, 39 are granted special allowance by State Council, one young expert on the national level, 4 young experts on the provincial and ministerial level, 2 doctor supervisors and 11 master supervisors.

Since established in 1960, HAF has undertaken many key scientific programs of National Key Technologies R&D Programs, The National High Technology Research and Development Programs (863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China, Foundation for State Agriculture Achievements Transformation and key provincial and ministerial research programs, and has acquired 1,000 achievements or so. Among them, 414 programs have won prizes (11 awards on the national level, 77 on the ministerial level and 80 the provincial level) and 12 national patents. More than 80% of the achievements have been transformed and used in the forestry production, which provides strong technical support for the forestry development of Heilongjuiang province and its surroundings, and made great ecological, economic and social benefits.

While researching the basic programs, HAF is strengthening technical creation increasingly and trying to develop high-tech researches. A lot of demonstrative bases and good products with high-tech, high developing and extention values are created. Among them, Heilongjiang Stock Breeding Base, Aralia elata (Miq.) Seem, Acanthopanax Senticosus, Northern Chinese magnoliavine Economic Forest Breeding Demonstrative Base, Fine Strain Breeding Base mainly breeding Hazel grouse and Daurian Partridge, timber drying automatic control system, furniture made of compositive timber, fire control improvement, a series of products from deer such as deer wine, deer placeta eletuary, and green food which are granted awards by province and ministry, such as mountain vegetable soft can and black arboreal fungus block.
