A Brief Introduction of Heilongjiang Forest
            Protection Research Institute

     Heilongjiang Forest Protection Research Institute, the former forest fire prevention research institute of Chinese forestry science academy, which is under the direct leadership of the ministry of forestry, was established in 1965 and took the present name in 1972, when it was subordinate to Heilongjiang academy of forestry science. It is a national forest fire prevention specialized research institute.
     For 40 years Heilongjiang Forest Protection Research Institute has constantly devoted its efforts to the research of forest fire prevention theory and technology application and the research of forest pests control technology.
At present the institute have 55 employees, and 40 persons have the title of a technical post, account for 73 percent of the staff, In them 17 persons have the high title of a technical post, the number of the person who have the middle title of a technical post is 11 and the number of the person who have the primary title of a technical post is 12, in these specially technical persons, 6 are doctor, 9 are master and 27 are bachelor, whose majors involve forest protection, forestry, machinery, meteorology, chemical engin  eering, electronics, computer, applied math, etc. The institute has a forest fire prevention laboratory and a forest pest comprehensive prevention and control laboratory. It has the features of complete specialities of personnel, set-matching facilities and reasonable arrangement of scientific and technical workers.
     After it was established 40 years, under the help of the Chinese forest bureau leader and leader of the Heilongjiang province, after the endeavor of the staff, the institute has undertaken a large number of state and provincial (ministrial)-level forest fire prevention scientific research projects and completed a total of 203 scientific research projects, including 151 projects for forest fire prevention, 52 projects for preventing and controlling forest pest and over 60 projects which won awards of scientific and technical advancement issued by the state, province (ministry), office (bureau). The research achievements of our institute in forest fire prevention account for 65% of the total in this sector of the country, and the new technology and new achievements of our institute in forest fire prevention which are applied nationwide account for 70% of the total. All this indicates the advantageous position and leading level of our institute in national forest fire prevention scientific research and spread and application and its important effect and great contribution to the forest fire prevention science and technology progress of our country. The research achievements of our institute in forest pest are mostly spread and applied in the province and in the country and the forest plant hospital composed of experts of all subjects is playing an important role in Heilongjiang province.
     Heilongjiang Forest Protection Research Institute has established a wide technical cooperation with the research organizations concerned in the country and the forest fire prevention authorities and forest pest prevention and control stations of all provinces in the country. The institute also attaches great importance to cooperation and technical exchanges with foreign countries and has successively established and maintained stable science and technology exchanges and cooperation with the organizations concerned and their experts of US, Canada, Russia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Finland, etc.
     In socialized service, the forest protection training center established by our institute annually trains over 2,000 person-times of personnel specializing in forest fire prevention, forest diseases and insect pests prevention and control, including as many as 20 classes for national forest fire prevention and 15 classes for provincial forest plant diseases and insect pests prevention and control in particular, so as to make a contribution to the science and technology popularization for forestry disaster control.
     The global ecological management and the natural forest protection projects of our country have put forward a new subject for us, and facing the new challenge, Heilongjiang Forest Protection Research Institute is willing to join hands with colleagues at home and abroad so as to make our due contribution to this grand goal.
